Promotion of Dr. Nalla Palanisamy

MCTP faculty member Dr. Nalla Palanisamy was promoted to Research Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology, effective Spetember 1, 2012.
Dr. Palanisamy has been a member of MCTP since 2007. He came to MCTP with an extensive experience in characterizing gene fusions in cancer and focused on projects that would have significant translational impact. He studies the genetic complexity of a subset of prostate cancers patients lacking the well-known ETS gene fusions while developing novel approaches to study chromosomal abberations. Early on he realized the potential of the emerging next generation sequencing (NGS) technology to characterize the cancer genome and exploited NGS methologies to discover novel gene fusions. He has made significant progress in the application of NGS during the last four years, evident in seminal publications in top-tier peer-reviewed journals such as Nature, Nature Medicine, Nature Biotechnology, PNAS and Science. Please extend a congratulations to Dr. Palanisamy on his achievement.
